Vehicle runs over 9-year-old in Odisha, Locals block road with body

Nabarangpur: In a saddening incident, a nine-year-old boy had been killed after an unidentified vehicle ran over him on Tuesday in Sindhiguda village under Nandahandi block of Nabarangpur district.

Reportedly, the nine-year-old, son of Judhistir Bhatra, was going to school with one of his friends when an unidentified vehicle hit them.

The locals rushed both of them to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). Later, Bhatra’s son was shifted to Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College & Hospital in Koraput as his health condition deteriorated.

However, he was declared dead while undergoing treatment.

The minor’s body was taken to his native last evening where his family members and villagers blocked Sindhiguda Road by placing the dead body in the middle of the road over demand of Rs 20 lakh compensation.

Several vehicles are stranded on both sides of the road due to the road blockade.

Thereafter this morning, the Additional District Collector, Additional Superintendent of Police, Nandahandi Block Development Officer (BDO), Tahsildar of Nabarbangpur, and Nandahandi arrived in the village with the police force to take charge of the situation.

The villagers took the minor’s body and conducted his last rites after receiving compensation from the owner of the vehicle, as well as a promise from the administration for the Red Cross Fund from Harishchandra Sahayata.
