Van-truck crash leaves 4 dead, over 10 injured in Angul

Angul: Turning a pilgrimage trip sour, at least 4 persons were killed and over 10 sustained injuries after a Tata Winger van crashed with a truck on NH-55 at Katada near Jarapada in the district last night.

While three of the deceased have been identified as Arun Kumar and Sibaram Sahoo of Balasinga area and Dharani Pradhan of Tulasipal area of Angul district another could not have been identified yet.

As per the report, the mishap took place at around 2 am in the night while a group of 14 pilgrims were returning home after a trip to Koraput. Near Katada on the highway driver of a speeding vegetable-laden truck which was coming from the opposite direction failed the detect the van and ended up hitting it from the spot.

While four persons boarding the van died on the spot, the injured were immediately rushed to Angul District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) by local police.

Two of the injured were later shifted SCB Medical in Cuttack due to deteriorating condition.

Police have seized the mangled vehicle and started investigation into the mishap.
