Utkal University students asked to vacate hostels for impending cyclone ‘Fani’

Bhubaneswar: In a precautionary measure in view of the approaching severe cyclonic storm ‘Fani’, the Utakal University authorities today asked the students to vacate the hostels.

The students started vacating their hostel rooms starting from 10 am in the morning after an official notification for the same.

Notably, IMD has warned extensive damage to all types of kutcha houses, old Pucca structures, and disruption of rail and road link at several places, damage to standing crops, plantations, orchards and potential threat from flying objects during the ‘Fani’ landfall in Odisha tomorrow.

The severe cyclonic storm currently lays centred around 430 km South-Southwest of Puri and is moving with a speed of 7 kmph, informed IMD ADG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra earlier today.
