Amit Shah roarsBhubaneswar: Shedding the inhibition that marked his pronouncements on the Naveen Patnaik Government in Odisha during his earlier visits to the state, BJP National President Amit Shah today launched into a scathing, no-holds-barred attack on the BJD dispensation. More importantly, he hit where it hurts the most and even issued a threat.

“People associated closely with the State government are involved in several scams including multi-crore chit fund scams and mining scam. We will send all the corrupt to jail when BJP comes to power in 2019,” Shah thundered while addressing a public meeting at Janata Maidan here.

Pointing that Modi Government gave central assistance worth Rs 4 lakh crore to Odisha in the last three years, which he said was the highest during the last 70 years, the saffron leader said the state still lags far behind others in terms of development.

“I am not here to give the Centre’s Report Card;  I am here to seek report Card of 17 years of Naveen Patnaik’s rule,” Shah said while calling upon the people of the state to ‘uproot’ the corrupt and inefficient BJD govt.

The BJP President also reiterated that his party would contest the next State assembly polls alone and win as many as 120 out of the 147 Assembly seats and form government on its own in the state.

The ruling BJD party hit back at the BJP chief in kind at a press conference addressed by former ministers Pratap Keshari  Deb, Arun Sahoo and Sanjay Dasburma soon after the public meeting.

“Amit Shah’s language reminds us of demons like Ravana and Kansa; Youth should stay away from a party like BJP which has been spreading hatred across the nation after coming to power in 2014,” Sahu said,

Known for his colourful simile and analogies, Sahu also equated the saffron party with the ‘Blue Whale Challenge’ game, which has claimed several innocent lives, particularly adolescents, in the recent past.

On his part, Dasburma was more circumspect restricting himself to comparisons with BJP governments at the Centre and in other states.

“The annual economic growth of Odisha is higher than that at the national level as well as some BJP-ruled states including Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh,” he said.

Senior BJD leader and Rajya Sabha MP Pratap Keshari Deb said, “The BJP leaders are blaming us on the issue of Nagada malnutrition time and again whereas such incidents also happen in BJP ruled states, including Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra etc.”
