Unhappy over love marriage, man attacks son-in-law in Odisha

Berhampur: Unhappy over the love marriage of his daughter, a 55-year-old man allegedly attacked his son-in-law with a knife near Punjikaya chhak under Digapahandi police limits of Ganjam district in Odisha late last night.

The injured, identified as Sanjay Gouda of Kalyanpur village under Digapahandi police limits, was rushed to Digapahandi hospital in a critical condition. Later, he was shifted to MKCG hospital here as his condition was deteriorated.

The accused has been identified as Umakant Gouda of the same village.

According to reports, Sanjay was in love with Jayanti, daughter of Umakant Gouda, for over five years. Eventually, the couple got married at a village temple on June 30 this year.

After their marriage, the couple shifted to Digapahandi, where Sanjay had started work at a garment shop.

Sources said, Umakant, however, did not agree to their marriage as the couple belongs to same Gotra (lineage).

Last night at around 11 PM, Umakant suddenly attacked his son-in-law with a knife when he was returning from the shop, onlookers said.

A case has been registered at Digapahandi police station in this connection.
