Undertrial prisoner dies under treatment in Nabarangpur, kin allege medical negligence

Nabarangpur: Tension prevailed at the Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) today, after an ailing undertrial prisoner of Umerkote sub-jail died under treatment and his family members alleged medical negligence on the part of the doctors.

The deceased has been identified as Deb Majhi, a murder accused who had been lodged in the jail for past four months.

As per the jail officials, Majhi had been taken ill a couple of days ago following which they had admitted him to the DHH last night.  However he didn’t improve and succumbed to the illness this morning.

However, the deceased’s family members who rushed to the hospital later in the morning claimed it to be a case of medical negligence and demanded action against the guilty doctors.

Police have lodged a case of unnatural death in the incident and sent the body for autopsy.
