Puri: An undertrial prisoner was found hanging in the toilet of Puri District Headquarters jail on Sunday. Prima Facie suggests that the inmate has committed suicide by hanging himself with his towel.
The deceased prisoner has been identified as Sheikh Akbar Mehmood of Khordha. He was accused in a gang-rape case and had been lodged at the Puri District Jail since a couple of months
Post the incident, Mehmood’s family has alleged foul play behind his death and have demanded a probe.
Meanwhile, Nimapara SDPO Sarat Mishra has started an investigation to get a deeper insight into the matter.
