Nabarangpur: The Odisha Vigilance on Monday apprehended the Additional Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) of Umerkote in Nabarangpur district while demanding and accepting a bribe.
The Additional IIC has been identified as Limaraj Pradhan.
Acting on a tip-off, the Odisha anti-corruption team laid a trap against Limaraj while demanding and accepting cash of Rs.20,000/- from a Complainant in order to not take any action against him in a family dispute matter.
He asked the Complainant to come after 10 pm to Umerkote police station. However, to avoid the CCTV cameras he came outside to a lonely place to collect the bribe.
Later, after collecting the bribe amount the IIC saw the Vigilance Team, comprising 1 DSP, 3 Inspectors, and other staff, approaching from a distance. Thereafter, he fled to a neighboring bushy area following which he was chased and apprehended. He tried to engage in a scuffle to free himself but was overpowered by the Vigilance team.
The entire bribe money of Rs 20,000/- has been recovered and seized from the exclusive possession of accused Limaraj.
A case has been registered in this connection with Koraput Vigilance under section 7 of The Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation is underway against Limaraj.
