‘Uber’ driver attacked in city; robbed of car, cash, mobile phone

Bhubaneswar: Putting a question mark on the safety and security of cab drivers in the capital city Bhubaneswar, a group of unidentified miscreants snatched away the car of an ‘Uber’ driver in the wee hours today after attacking him brutally.

The victim taxi driver has been identified as Ganesh Mahakud.

As per a complaint filed by the victim with the Commissionerate Police, the mishap took place at around 4 AM on Thursday near Khandagiri Square. At least two miscreants boarded the taxi after booking it on ‘Uber App’ very late in the night and traveled till the Tapoban Lane where they started threatening him with sharp weapons. As the victim protested the duo attacked him brutally and snatched away his wallet carrying Rs 12,000 along with the mobile phone before fleeing the spot with the car.

Locals rescued the victim in a critical condition with stab injuries and rushed to a nearby hospital. He is out of danger now.

Police have lodged a case in the incident and are trying to trace the looted vehicle.
