Cuttack: Badambadi police seized cash of worth Rs 81 lakh from two persons on Saturday night. Police said that both the youths hailing from Bengal have been handed over to the Income Tax (IT) department for further investigation.
Police said that both the youth was about to board a bus to Calcutta when police detained them. “The cash was stashed in a bag and the bag was so heavy that they were unable to transport it properly. That raised suspicion and our men detained both of them,” said a police official.
Police said that the duo claimed of running jewellery business in Bengal. “We strongly suspect both of them being involved in smuggling of gold. The cash has been seized and IT people will investigate further to ascertain the source of cash,” added the police official.
