Two school students hurt in miscreant’s knife attack

Baripada: At least two school students sustained injuries and one of them turned critical later, after an unidentified miscreant attacked them with a knife entering into the hostel toilets in Saraskana village under Jharpokharia tehsil in Mayurbhanj district in the wee hours on Sunday.

The victim duo has been identified as Sandeep Hansda (Class VI) and Manoj Mohanta (Class IX). Both the victims studied in Saraskana Saraswati Sishu Vidyamandir and live in hostel.

The attack took place at around 4.30 AM, minutes after the victim duo went to attend nature’s call in the school hostel. An unidentified man broke into the latrine and tried to slit Sandeep’s throat with a sharp knife. As he raised an alarm and Manoj came out from another latrine to help him, the miscreant started attacking him also and later fled away.

The school authorities rushed the injured duo to Mayurbhanj District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) immediately. They were later shifted to the PRM Medical College and Hospital for better treatment.

Police started investigation into the incident after the school authorities lodged a case this morning.

The reason behind the attack on the school students is yet to be ascertained.
