Two Poachers Arrested With 57 Bird Carcasses In Chilika

Khordha: Forest officials in Tangi forest range have seized carcasses of as many as 57 migratory birds and have arrested two persons for poaching of birds. Forest officials have also rescued three birds from the poachers.

Forest officials have seized a firearm and ammunition from the accused. “Getting a tip off we conducted a raid and seized the bird carcasses. Five members of the gang managed to escape by assaulting our men. We have also seized a boat used in poaching of birds,” said a forest official.  

Chilika Lake receives migrants from a wide range of breeding grounds extending from north, central and east Siberia, China and Mongolia, and west Asian countries such as Kazakhstan.

Earlier on November 28 forest officials had seized carcasses of as many as 11 migratory birds and arrested a minor for poaching of birds in the same forest range.
