Two die of electrocution during Rath Yatra in Odisha

Jajpur: In a tragic incident, two people died and seven others injured when the chariot they were pulling came in contact with a live wire during Rath Yatra celebration at Tisco Mines colony under Kaliapani police limits in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Thursday.

The deceased have been identified as Bharat Roy of Bihar and Suchitra Lenka of Kamakshanagar region in the state.

The injured were rushed to the local hospital, where their condition is reported to be critical.

According to reports, most of the people who were pulling the chariot felt the shock as soon as the chariot touched the live wire. The chariot was also caught fire.

On being informed, the Fire tenders reached the spot and doused the fire.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Kaliapani police station. The police started probe into the incident.

A pal of gloom has descended in the area after the tragic incident on the occasion of the holy Rath Yatra.
