Cuttack: In a tragic incident, two Class-II students (a boy and a girl) died after drowning at a pond in the district today. The unfortunate incident took place at Malati village under Baramba Police limits of Cuttack district.
According to sources, the minor students had gone to the pond to take bath after attending their morning school today. However, they slipped into the deep water of the pond and drowned as neither they were able to swim back nor there was anybody to rescue them.
Some locals who went to the pond sometime later spotted the bodies of the students floating in the pond and recovered the bodies from the water.
After getting information about the incident from the rescuers, family members of the deceased children, whose identities were not known immediately, reached the spot.
A team of the Baramba police station also arrived at the spot and started an investigation into the matter after registering a case of unnatural death of the duo. They also sent the mortal remains of the school students to the local hospital for postmortem.
Meanwhile, a pall of gloom descended on Malati village following the mishap.
