Two Arrested From Madhya Pradesh For Loots In Guise Of Cops

Cuttack: Two members of a gang committing loot by impersonating themselves as police were arrested from Madhya Pradesh on Monday. Police said that both the accused were brought to Cuttack today.

Both the accused have been identified as Javed Ali (35) and Sadik Ali (28),  residents of Madhya Pradesh. Police said that the gang of four had looted ornaments from a 76-year-old woman during morning walk at Jobra on May 13.

“The accused approached the woman identifying themselves as police and requested the woman not to wear gold ornaments during the morning walk. Later they asked her to keep the ornaments in a folder. Subsequently, the accused changed the folder and handed over the woman another folder containing glass pieces,” said a police official.

Police basing on CCTV footage traced the gang to Madhya Pradesh. “The gang used to target senior citizens taking walks in isolated places. They used to identify themselves as police personnel,” added the police official.

Further investigation revealed the gang of committing similar crimes in various areas in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri. “So far we have found their involvement in 15 similar cases. We are trying to nab the rest members of the gang,” said the police official.
