Two Arrested For Theft Of Gold Ornaments In Bhubaneswar in March

Bhubaneswar: Police on Friday arrested two accused involved in the theft of gold ornaments weighing one kilogram from the owner of a jewellery shop at Gandhi Market under Nayapalli police limits on March 28. Police said that both the accused were nabbed from Ganjam.

The accused have been identified as Naglur Nani (33) and Tarini Acharya (35). Police said that Nani was involved in the theft of the ornament bag while Acharya helped him in the disposal of the stolen ornaments. Police have seized cash of Rs 4 lakh from the accused.

The owner of the jewellery shop Laxmidhar Subudhi had kept the bag containing the gold ornaments and cash of Rs3.5 lakh near his shop while closing the shop. “Nani lifted the bag and disappeared in the crowd. He was identified through CCTV footage obtained from a nearby shop. We also found a photocopy of Aadhaar card of the complainant. We are further verifying the antecedents of both the accused,’ said deputy commissioner of police, Anup Kumar Sahoo.
