Tugboat Arrives To Tow Stranded Malaysian Cargo In Chilika Lake

Puri: A ship from Singapore arrived today in Chilika to salvage stranded Malaysian cargo ship.

The ship was carrying a consignment of iron ore and other minerals from Malaysia to Bangladesh and was heading to Vishakhapatnam when it was trapped in the storm on August 7.

District administration officials said that the tugboat has arrived from Singapore and will tow the cargo ship from the coast on Sunday.

The Odisha government had earlier directed the owner of the cargo ship to shift the vessel from the eco-sensitive zone of Chilika lake along with the removal of oil. The ship had a stock of 30000 litres of diesel, 1000 litres of lubricant and 200 litres of hydraulic oil.
