Truck, tipper associations launch indefinite strike in Bonai

Bonai: Goods transport was badly hit across railway sidings in Bonai area in Sundergarh district after truck and tipper owners launched an indefinite strike protesting low freight rates starting from Friday.

All truck and tipper owners’ association in the sub division participated in the stir which was led by local MLA Laxman Munda. The strikers demanded an immediate step on the part of the government to hike the freight charges cope up with surge in the recent diesel price.

The striking truck and tipper owners also alleged that the imposition of transport tax by the State Government as per some new provisions in recent times had caused huge loss to them. Similarly, the wretched condition of roads in the Bonai Sub Division and increasing maintenance cost of the vehicles have further contributed to their plight. Hike in the freight charge is the only solution to the problem, they maintained.

The vehicles would remain off the roads till government accepts all our demands said a truck owner.
