Truck laden with illegal wood seized in Balangir

Balangir: Tightening the noose around the necks of timber mafia in the State, forest department officials today seized a wood-laden truck near Bharatbahal village under Laramba police limits.

The raid was conducted in the morning following a tip-off on the timber consignment which was being sent to neighbouring Chhattisgarh State from Mahada of Loisinga in Odisha.

A team of forest officials led by Ranger Basudev Nath intercepted the vehicle after few minutes chase near Bharatbahal. However, the persons boarding the truck managed to escape from the spot to evade arrest.

The seized wood logs will cost over Rs 2 lakh, informed forest department sources.
