Tribal Youth From Odisha Builds Water Pump Solely From Bamboo; Wins Applauds

Mayurbhanj: Just four bamboos, a cycling ring, two plastic pipes, an old pair of slippers and a rope is what was required by a tribal youth to build a water pump that is capable enough to extract water in an efficient way.

What’s more impressive is that his unique discovery cost him just Rs 600 for.

He isn’t a scientist with high degrees, but he can give a run for money to many scientists and masters degree holders, thanks to his efficient talent and knowledge.

It is his willingness to help farmers and fellow villagers with irrigation that drove him to build the bamboo water pump.

This very talented Rajesh Soren, a tribal youth of Sanadakoi village from Betana panchayat under Baripada Sadar block in tribal-dominated Mayurbhanj district.

Soren has become the talk of the town because of his unique discovery and is winning applause.

This special machine is made of bamboo powered by a bicycle ring/wheel. By rotating the cycle wheel, anyone can collect water. This doesn’t require any machine or electricity to draw water from the ground.

Locals heaped praises on Rajesh for his talent. He has become a source of inspiration for other farmers. The water pump is now being used for irrigating fields and drawing drinking water.

Due to financial crunch, Rajesh had to withdraw from studies after his Board Exams and was drawn towards agriculture and farming. However, he had to go through unwanted problems due to the lack of water and irrigation facilities in the village.

It is rightly said, Necessity is the mother of all invention. Now, Rajesh’s farms are standing tall with flowers and vegetable cultivation.

Rajesh is making good money through his cultivation. He hopes that his discovery inspires other farmers to build the low-cost bamboo water pump and used it efficiently to produce their crops.
