Bhubaneswar: A group of more than 20 transgenders reportedly stripped a baba naked and thrashed him mercilessly in front of everyone near Jaydev Vatika under Khandagiri police limits here this evening.
While the exact cause of the incident is yet to be known, locals claimed that the transgenders attacked the baba, who is identified as Naga Baba, after he did not permit them to enter into his matha (religious monasteries).
“A group of transgenders barged into the baba’s matha despite his denial and dragged him out and beat him mercilessly after stripped him in public,” said a local eyewitness.
Police are yet to take any action in the incident as no complaint has been lodged so far against the transgenders who were involved in the case.
The baba has not filed an FIR as he is observing a ‘maun vrat’ (to remain mute) for a couple of days, sources said.
However, many intellectuals along with locals have condemned the inhuman activity demanding action against them.
Meanwhile, video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
