Trains Will Be Fitted With GPS; Railway Board Chairman

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar railway station is set to get a complete makeover with the Indian Railways planning to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the State Government for construction of new station building and two more platforms, informed Railway Board Chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav today.

Yadav visited the railway station appreciated the commendable work done by the officials for the restoration of Bhubaneswar Railway station, Puri Railway station and Puri coaching deport in quick time before Rath Yatra. All these facilities were badly damaged during cyclone Fani in May.

“There is a demand to run more trains from Bhubaneswar, so a survey has been sanctioned this year to run freight trains by-passing Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.  It will facilitate to run more trains from Bhubaneswar and Cuttack soon,” said Yadav.

He also informed that wifi will be provided in all the important stations by September this year.  “CCTV will be installed all the important stations and important Mail/Express trains by the end of this financial year.  It will help to improve the safety and security of the passengers,” he added.

Yadav also said that all the train engines will be fitted with GPS system by the end of this financial year to know real-time position of the trains.  “It will operate on Real-time Information System (RTIS) with the help of ISRO satellite,’ said the Railway Board Chairman.
