Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police today raided a spurious tobacco production unit at Mahadevnagar in Jharpada area under Laxmisagar police limits and detained three persons.
A special team of the Commissionerate Police which carried out the raid in the morning, seized a large number of packets and pouches of leading tobacco companies along with packaging machines from the spot.
Informing on the raid, police said the crackdown was a part of the Commissionerate Police’s ongoing drive against FMCG and CPG product duplicators in the city and was conducted after putting the manufacturing unit on its radar for last one year.
The tobacco production unit which was raided today was involved in pumping its duplicate products to Bhubaneswar and Cuttack markets through agents. The duplicate products which were being available to consumers at a relatively lower price had a good demand in local market, says source.
Commissionerate Police had busted a fake ghee manufacturing unit functioning from Laxmisagar area in Bhubaneswar last year and had arrested six persons. Similarly, they had also raided a ghee duplicating unit at Sagaria Sahi under Professor Para area in Cuttack and arrested one person.
