Ghatagaon: Tightening the noose around the necks of wood mafias forest officials have seized an auto-rickshaw carrying a consignment of sawn timbers illegally and arrested its driver by conducting a raid in Melana village under Ghatagaon Forest Range in Keonjhar district on Saturday.
The held driver has been identified as Madhusudan Tanti of the same locality.
Acting upon a tip-off on the illegal transportation of sawn timber a team of officials from Ghatagaon forest office conducted a raid in Melana village early in the morning and intercepted the auto-rickshaw bearing registration number-OD 09 D 4360. As the driver failed to produce necessary documents, the timber consignment was seized immediately and the driver was taken into custody.
The seized timber would cost around Rs 20,000, said an official.
