Tigress Sundari to be shifted to Nandankanan: Odisha Minister

Bhubaneswar: In a major development, the government of Odisha has decided to shift tigress Sundari from Satkosia Wildlife Sanctuary to Nandankanan Zoological Park here.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Monday, Forest and Environment Minister Bijayshree Routray said the Bengal tigress will be brought to Nandankanan in the state capital after the big cat is being tranquilized by the expert teams.

Meanwhile, two tranquilliser teams from Pench and Kanha tiger reserves in Madhya Pradesh arrived in Odisha today and reached Satkosia to tranquilise the tigress.

On June 28, the tigress was brought to Satkosia wildlife sanctuary from Madhya Pradesh’s Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve as to increase the big cat population in Odisha.

However, Satkosia witnessed violence by local residents after Sundari allegedly killed two locals including a woman.
