Tigress ‘Sundari’ put under observation at Raigoda enclosure post tranquilisation

Bhubaneswar: Royal Bengal Tigress ‘Sundari’ has been kept in a special enclosure at Raigoda in Angul district after his successful tranquilization by a team of forest officials with the help of ‘Kumki’ elephant ‘Yashoda’ yesterday.

Informing on the health condition of the tigress forest department sources said, the animal is doing well and is under continuous observation by an expert team comprising of its members along with officials from National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and Wildlife Institute of India (WII).

Notably, the committee currently observing the physical state of the tigress will prepare a detailed report, based on which a decision on its relocation will be taken.

Elusive Sundari was tranquilized after two weeks of relentless effort by Satkosia Tiger Reserve team yesterday. Two special teams from Kanha and Pench Tiger Reserves in Madhya Pradesh took part in the tranquilization operation.

Sundari was brought from Madhya Pradesh’s Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve to Satkosia wildlife sanctuary on June 28 to increase tiger population in the state later turned into man eater. Residents from the villages located near Satkosia demanded shifting of the tigress after it attacked two locals including a woman from Tainsi village at a later stage. The tiger also attacked a journalist who was trying to collect news in Satkosia area recently.
