Tigress Priyanka dies at Nandankanan zoo in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: In yet another loss to the Nandankanan Zoological Park here, a tigress named Priyanka passed away on its premises today.

The tigress died at around 10.30 am following an age-related sickness for which it had been put under old age care treatment for past two years, informed the zoo authorities.

Aged around 19 years 5 months at the time of her death, Priyanka had been born on March 25, 2000.

With the death of Priyanka the total number of tigers living in the zoo has come down to 26. It is being seen as a loss to Odisha in terms of overall tiger population also. Tiger population remained intact at 28 in the State between 2014 and 2018 as per the fourth cycle of All India Tiger Estimation-2018, which was released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July this year.
