Keonjhar: As many as three people were killed and one was critically injured in lightning strikes in various parts of Keonjhar district today.
A couple in Badasialimala village under Harichandanpur block died after being struck by the thunderbolt. The deceased have been identified as Chaitanya Mohanta and his wife Meena Mohanta.
Similarly, in Thakurapada village, a man died and his wife was critically injured due to a lightning strike. The woman has been admitted to Keonjhar district headquarters hospital.
State disaster management minister Sudam Marandi had recently told the assembly that lightning was the third major cause of deaths in the state since April 2016 after snakebite and drowning. The state pays Rs 4 lakh for loss of each human lives due to lightning.
