Three killed as relief-laden truck falls into 100-ft gorge in Odisha’s Gajapati

Mahona: In a tragic incident, three persons were killed after a relief-laden truck they were travelling in skidded off road and fell into Badapur Ghat under R.Udaygiri police limits of Gajapati district on Friday.

The deceased have been identified as Narayan Rao of Palakonda area in Andhra Pradesh, Lapliti Rama Rao of Kashinagar and Malaya Kumar Tripathy of Bhawanipatna area.

R.Udaygiri SDPO Anil Pradhan, said, “The mishap took place at around 1 pm when a truck bearing registration no-AP 07TT 3299 fell into the gorge possibly after the driver lost control over the vehicle.”

“The ten-wheeler truck was carrying some relief materials including blankets and was on its way to Mahona from Paralakhemundi,” he added.

R.Udaygiri police along with the firefighters rushed to the spot and rescued the bodies and sent them to the district headquarters hospital for the postmortem in Paralakhemundi.

Police also have started an investigation into the matter. They are also recovering the relief materials from the truck which was damaged completely following the mishap.

Meanwhile, Gajapati district collector Anup Shah announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh for the next kin of each deceased.
