Three Arrested In Odisha For Torturing Family On Suspicion Of Witchcraft

Nabarangpur: Police have arrested three persons in connection with the incident in which a family of Nuaguda village in Nabarangpur district was tortured on suspicion of performing witchcraft.

The victims were forced to wash their hands with hot water mixed with cow dung over suspicion of practising witchcraft.

The accused have been identified as Ghenu Jani, Pada Jani, and Purusati Jani. Police said that villagers accused the victim Banamali Jena and his family for the death of cattle at Nuaguda village under Baghasiuni panchayat a few days ago.

Later, the villagers forced Banamali and his family to wash hands with hot water mixed with cow dung. As a result of which Banamali, his wife and daughter sustained critical burn injuries on their hands.

Subsequently, the family lodged a police complaint leading to the arrest of the three accused. Police said that they are also trying to nab other accused in the case.
