Thousands of Educational Institutes damaged by Fani

Bhubaneswar: Cyclone Fani has not only destroyed electric poles and mobile towers but also it has badly affected the educational institutes in the 14 affected districts, said a report of the State Emergency Operation Centre.

As per the report 5244 number of primary school buildings and 1547 number of secondary school buildings were damaged in the cyclone.

Similarly the cyclone also severely damaged as many as 180 higher education institutions while 90 higher education institutes were also partially damaged.

The cyclone has caused  damage to the tune of Rs 150 crore in the campuses of KIIT, KISS and KIMS in Bhubaneswar. Similarly the cyclone have also left trail of destruction in Utkal University and Ramadevi Women’s University.

Earlier the office of the Special Relief Commissioner has ordered for closure of all educational institutions in the state from May 2 till further orders. Government officials said that the repairing work of the educational institutes will be started soon.
