This year’s Dhanu Yatra in Bargarh put on hold

Bargarh: The world-famous annual Dhanu Yatra in Odisha’s Bargarh has been put on hold. This was informed by district Collector Monisha Banerjee.

The Collector and members of the Dhanu Yatra Committee reportedly met today to take a final decision regarding organizing the world’s open-air theatrical performance this year. However, the meeting decided to put the annual fair on hold for now in view of the COVID situation in the State.

Banerjee said that the next decision to hold the 11-day-long annual festival after the release of COVID-19 guidelines for the month of January by the Odisha government.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Dhanu Yatra was canceled last year due to the pandemic situation.

The Bargarh Dhanu Yatra depicts the mythological episode involving the killing of King Kansa in the hands of his nephew Lord Krishna. Earlier, the Bali Yatra in Cuttack, Paradip and Bhubaneswar had been canceled this year due to the pandemic.
