Third wave of Covid-19 likely to have less impact on Odisha, ECMO treatment to begin at SCB hospital from Aug 27

Bhubaneswar: The third wave of Covid-19 will not have much impact on Odisha according to IIT Kanpur model. If the third wave arrives then it will not be that intense as the second wave of the virus, informs DMET Chief CBK Mohanty on Wednesday.

If a new variant of Covid-19 is found, then the effect will be much more, added DMET.

Different models have different evaluation. Some models have predicted that around 4-5 lakh Covid positives will be detected in India and some say there will be not much impact. But the state government is all prepared to tackle Covid situation if it arrives, said DMET CBK Mohanty

Talking about the Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) treatment,DMET Chief CBK Mohanty informed that, it is all set to begin at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack by August 27.

Nine extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) machines will be installed at the State’s premier medical institution. It will be the largest unit in the eastern part of India, added DMET.

The costly medical equipment will be installed at the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) Department of the SCB Medical College & Hospital.
