Cuttack: Two thieves were beaten black and blue by the villagers in Goudagopa under Mahanga police limits in the district after being caught red-handed while trying to loot at least two shops last night.
At least four burglars reached Goudagopa Bazaar by boarding a Mahindra Bolero late last night with a loot motive. They broke into the grocery shop of Batakrushna Samal and cycle shop of Bairagi Samal in the market and tried to loot a number of items when some traders spotted them and somehow managed to nab at least two.
The angry traders seized all the stolen items from the detained duo and tied them on the spot to nab mercilessly till this morning.
Mahanga Police reached the spot and rescued the duo from the clutches of the angry mob.
Police have lodged a case in the incident and are trying to trace the escaped burglars.
