Thief beaten up in Odisha village

Nayagarh: A thief was beaten up black and blue by locals for committing robbery from a house at Baigunia village under Fatehgarh police limits in Odisha’s Nayagarh district late last night.

According to reports, As many as four thieves came to the village in two bikes late last night to steal cash and other valuables from a house of one Pathani Nanda, taking advantage of the absence of family members in the house.

However, the neighbours alerted the villagers when the thieves entered the house to commit robbery.

Out of four thieves, three escaped seeing the approaching villagers but one was caught by a group of people. The accused was allegedly tied up with an electric pole and thrashed by the angry locals.

Pathani Nanda said, “No one was inside the house when it was burgled last night. The thieves broke open the almirahs and took away cash of Rs 20000, ATM cards, Bank cheque books, gold ornaments and other valuables.”

On being informed, police reached the spot this morning and rescued the thief from the mob.

A case of theft has been registered at Fatehgarh Police Station in this connection.

“An investigation is going on and a manhunt has been launched to nab other thieves”, police said.
