There is no greater act of humanity than donating blood: Odisha CM

Bhubaneswar: “There is no greater act of humanity than donating blood. It costs us nothing but gifts life to another,” said Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day-2018 today.

Taking to his twitter handle Patnaik also saluted the everyday heroes who save lives by giving blood and urged all to shed fears, inhibitions and be there for someone else.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also said, “Blood is replaceable, Life is not.” Donate Blood to give back life.”

Different awareness programmes on blood donation and blood donation camps were also organised by several organisations at different places of the sate.

The World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) is observed every year on June 14 since 2004 to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products, and to thank blood donors for their voluntary, life-saving gifts of blood.

The WBDD is observed every year with different theme. This year’s theme is – “Be there for someone else. Give blood. Share life.”

The World Blood Donor Day is one of eight official global public health campaigns marked by the World Health Organisation (WHO), along with World Health Day, World Tuberculosis Day, World Immunization Week, World Malaria Day, World No Tobacco Day, World Hepatitis Day, and World AIDS Day.
