Malkangiri: Tension prevailed at the MV-19 Primary Health Centre (PHC) in the district last night after a patient was allegedly administered an expired injection by the staffs on duty.

The patient identified as one Gopal Mandal of MV-19 area had been admitted to the PHC following a sickness on Wednesday morning. However, he had been diagnosed with Brain Malaria at a later stage and had been prescribed injections by the doctors there.

As per the allegations of the patient’s family, a set of two injections had been purchased from one medicine store operated near the hospital by one Sudheer Sarkar under the prescription. While one of the injections was administered to the patient at around 11 AM yesterday, a family member found the pack to be an expired one ahead of the administering of the second one.

Angry family members of the patient created ruckus inside the hospital demanding action on the guilty medicine store owner for several hours late in the night. They later shifted the patient to Malakngiri DHH.
