Tension at Utkal and Sambalpur varsities after night clashes

Bhubaneswar/Sambalpur: Tension ran high on the premises of Utkal University and Sambalpur University last night following student unrest over separate incidents.

As per the report, students of the Department of Pharmacy of the Utkal University were holding a peaceful protest in front of the varsity gate when another group of students from Agri Management Department indulged in an argument with them. Later, a scuffle erupted between the two sides in which some non-students assisted the Agri Management students.

The angry students didn’t even care for the police which reached the spot immediately to maintain law and order situation and exchanged blows in the presence of cops. However, the tension receded after police detained two youths involved in the incident and stationed police teams inside the campus later in the night.

At Sambalpur University, a heated exchange of words took place between an M.Phil Student and Professor of the Political Science Department Rajat Kujur in the same night. As the verbal duel escalated into a fight between the two, two separate student groups indulged in a pitched battle over the issue later.

At least two students sustained injuries in the incident and were rushed to Burla Hospital.

Varsity authorities have swung into action following the incident and are trying to pacify the irate students.
