Sambalpur: Vigilance sleuths on Friday arrested a Junior Clerk of Tehsil office in Sambalpur district red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from a person to process his property partition deed.

Clerk Prafulla Kumar Sahu had demanded the bribe amount from complainant Ikrar Hussain to do his work. While the accused demanded a sum of Rs 5,000 for the purpose initially, later settled for Rs 4,000 after Hussain expressed his inability to arrange the money. Finding no way out, Hussain met Sambalpur Vigilance SP Swarup Kumar Parida yesterday to lodge a complaint and a trap was laid accordingly by the anti-corruption bureau officials.

A team of Vigilance sleuths arrested the Clerk while accepting the bribe in front of a betel shop located beside the Tehsil office in the afternoon.

However, the accused Clerk has rubbished the bribe allegation and claimed that he had been falsely implicated in the case.
