Teachers postpone agitation till July 15; to join Plus Two paper evaluation duty

Bhubaneswar: The agitating teachers on Thursday postponed their ongoing agitation till July 15 and decided to join the Plus Two answer paper evaluation duty.

“We had a successful discussion with Chief Secretary Aditya Padhi. He requested us to call off the agitation assuring to look into our demands. Therefore we decided to put our demonstration on hold till July 15,” said All Odisha School-College Teachers and Employees United Forum Convener Prakash Mohanty while speaking to the reporters after meeting the Chief Secretary.

“Now we will join the Plus Two answer paper evaluation duty. We hope the state government will fulfill our demands, if not we will decide our next course of action after holding meeting with the steering committee,” he added.

Informing about the latest development, the Chief Secretary said, “The teacher body had a meeting with us, during which they placed a three-charter of demands before us. We assured them to consider their demands and requested to call off their agitation which they agreed.”

Principal Secretary of Higher Education Department, Development Commissioner, Finance Secretary and Nayagarh MLA Arun Sahu, the mediator between the teachers and state government were present.

They have been demanding fulfillment of their various demands including issuance of notification regarding withdrawal of the affidavit clause prescribed in the Grant-in-Aid (GIA) Policy-2017 since long. Hundreds of teachers had held a mega rally yesterday to press their demands.
