Teacher hacked to death, daughter critical in attack in Bargarh

Bargarh: Tension ran high in Khairpali village under Ambabhona police limits in the district on Saturday after a group of assailants hacked a teacher to death and injured his minor daughter grievously.

The deceased has been identified as Sadhu Charan Pradan (50), a resident of Saranda village under Attabira Police Station area in the same district. He worked as a teacher and Cluster Resource Centre Coordinator (CRCC) in Khairpali Primary School and lived with his family in the village.

Sadhu was asleep along with his minor daughter identified as Swati Pradhan (15) in the house and rest of his family were on a visit to his native village when the attack took place. A group of assailants barged into the CRCC’s house and attacked the father-daughter duo with an axe in which Sadhu died on the spot and his daughter turned critical. The assailants escaped from the spot after the attack.

Neighbours of the family rushed the minor girl to Bargarh DHH from where she was shifted to VIMSAR in Burla due to deteriorating condition later.

Ambabhona Police conducted the preliminary investigation after reaching the spot this morning and seized the body for autopsy.

Police have detained a man from neighbouring Mapali village identified as Nagen Das in connection with the case and are quizzing him.
