Teacher arrested for sexually harassing class 8 girl, suspended in Odisha

Angul: A teacher was arrested for allegedly sexually harassing an eighth class girl of the Aida Nodal Upper Primary School in the Athamallik block of Odisha’s Angul district on Friday.

Sushil Kumar Mishra, the headmaster of the school, was arrested for allegedly misbehaving with girls staying in the school’s hostel on various occasions under the pretext of teaching them.

According to reports, some victims informed about the matter to the hostel matron, who then wrote to the Angul District Education Office (DEO) and Athamallik Block Education Officer (BEO) about it.

The Athamallik BEO, Dasrathi Shundi, visited the hostel following the direction of the DEO and started an investigation into the matter.

All the girls who had been mistreated were questioned about the inappropriate behaviour of the headmaster as part of an inquiry by the BEO. Although the accused teacher denied all of the allegations leveled against him, he was suspended from his job.

However, it is being speculated that the BEO has not taken the matter seriously to find out the truth behind the crime.

It is to be noted here that the Aida Nodal High Primary School has a 200-bedded girls’ hostel for the students from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes, including the eighth standard students.
