Tathagata Satpathy on Modi GovtBhubaneswar: The ‘letter war’ between Dhenkanal MP Tathagat Satpathy and Union Panchayati Raj Minister Narendra Singh Tomar over the language issue came to an end on Tuesday with the latter issuing a letter to Satpathy in English and the latter expressing his happiness about it.

Expressing his happiness over Tomar’s recent letter, which he forwarded on behalf of the Union Panchayati Raj ministry to invite the BJD MP to identify the ‘Adarsh Grams’ under the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojna (SAGY), Satpathy took to his twitter handle to reply. He also posted a copy of the letter on the micro blogging site.

Notably, it all started with Tomar issuing a letter in Hindi in his capacity as the Panchayati Raj Minister to Satpathy to attend a program under Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojna (SAGY) last month. As Odisha falls in the ‘C’ category state under the Official Language Rules, making it mandatory for the Centre to make all official communication to it in English, Satpathy objected Tomar’s move. Later, he replied to the letter in Odia claiming that he did  not understand Hindi.

The language war between the two intensified after Union Minister Prakash Javadekar joined the row advising Satpathy to first write a letter in Odia to the non-Odia speaking Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. In a prompt reply to him, the Dhenkanal MP posted a response to a KalingaTV tweet on the issue and wrote, “Couldn’t you ask Hon’ble Sri Javadekar if he has ever seen what language I use while communicating with state authorities?”
