Take down ‘Blue Whale’ links from social media, DGP tells SPs

Odisha DGPBhubaneswar: In a measure to check the ‘Blue Whale Challenge’, a computer game which has claimed the lives of many teenagers in the country in the recent past, Odisha Police DGP KB Singh directed all SPs in the state on Thursday to take down the links of the game from all social media sites.

The directive by the DGP came in response to a newspaper report today which blamed the suicide of a school girl in Sambalpur recently to the deadly game.

In his directive, Singh told all SPs in the state to keep a watch on various social media outlets and ensure that the suicide game in the name of ‘Blue Whale Challenge’ or any other similar name is not available to the users in the State. He added this order should be carried out with immediate effect taking into account the urgency of the issue.

Notably, a Class 10 girl from Sambalpur namely Suhani Rout was found hanging from a fan in her room on Wednesday. Though she was shifted to hospital by parents, doctors declared her brought dead. But trouble erupted after a newspaper linked the death to ‘Blue Whale Challenge’ and published a report on it.

However, Sambalpur SP Sanjeev Arora has already ruled out the Blue Whale angle in the incident.
