Suresh Mahapatra Gets 6-month Extension As Odisha Chief Secretary

Bhubaneswar: Chief Secretary of Odisha Suresh Chandra Mahapatra got a six-month extension of service after an approval from the Centre.

Mahapatra, a 1986-batch IAS officer, will now remain as the Chief Secretary of Odisha till August 31 2022. Earlier he was due to retire on February 28 this year.

Reportedly on December 31, 2021, the State Government had written to Ministry of Personnel for extension of Mahapatra’s tenure by six months beyond his normal date of retirement.

The Department of Personnel and Training under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievance and Pensions approved a proposal given by the Odisha government on extension of Mahapatra’s tenure as Chief Secretary of the State.

“I am directed to convey the approval of the Central government for extension of service of Suresh Chandra Mahapatra for a period of six months beyond his normal date of superannuation, which is February 28, 2022 under Rule 16 (1) of AIS (DCRB) Rules, 1958,” stated a letter signed by under secretary, DoPT, Devendra Kumar.

On January 1, 2021, Mahapatra succeeded his batchmate Asit Tripathy.

It is to be noted that Former Chief Secretary of Odisha Rabi Narayan Das who had got three extensions of six months each.
