New Delhi: The Supreme Court adjourned the hearing on Puri Srimandir reforms yesterday, as a new bench is yet to be set up after the retirement of Justice AK Sikri.

However, the SC did not announce the date to which the hearing has been deferred. Earlier, the hearing was deferred on multiple occasions due to the absence of Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri in the three-judge bench.

The hearing on Tuesday was based on the report submitted on March 5 by the SC-appointed Amicus Curiae Ranjit Kumar on temple reforms. The report contained instructions on the abolition of hereditary appointment of servitors, the prohibition of collection of money for Annadan Atika from devotees and amendment of Shree Jagannath Temple Act, 1954.

During the last hearing on April 8, nine parties in the case had put forward their sides in the court. The violence at Puri Srimandir in October last year over the introduction of the Queue system was also taken up during the hearing.
