Sulia Jatra to be held on January 19, Animal sacrifice to continue

Balangir: One of the major festivals of the tribal people of western Odisha, the Sulia Yatra, will be held on January 19 in Balangir district of Odisha. It was intimated following a meeting of the ‘Milita Sulia Jatra Puja Committee’.

Sulia Jatra is observed on the first Tuesday in the bright lunar fortnight of the Hindu month of Pousa every year.

A meeting was held in this regard in the main khala at Khairguda by the Milita Sulia Jatra Puja Committee where it was decided to observe the festival amid Covid restrictions while the tradition of animal sacrifice will be observed this year also.

As per reports, animal sacrifice will go on at the Badakhala and Sanakhala of Khairaguda. The worship will also go on at the Nua Khala as per the tradition.

In the wake of Covid pandemic limitations will be put over erection of the temporary shops at the Yatra site as a precautionary measure to check spread of Coronavirus.

On the other hand the district administration will create awareness to limit the number of animal sacrifice and so will hold a meeting in this regard on January 15.
