Suktel River Bridge collapses in Odisha’s Balangir, Two killed

Balangir: At least two persons were killed and another person sustained critical injuries after a portion of Suktel River Bridge collapsed on them near Tamia village under Patnagarh block of Balangir district on Wednesday.

The deceased persons have been identified as Manish Kasua and Tapu Kasua of Madhya Pradesh. They were engaged in the repairing work along with several others.

The person who sustained severe injuries in the incident is being treated at Bhima Bhoi Medical College & Hospital in Balangir.

The locals administration and police are on the spot to probe the incident which occured while the labourers were repairing a pillar of the bridge this morning.

While the foundation stone for the bridge was reportedly laid in July 2014, the construction work was completed in February 2016. However, there were allegations of poor quality of work after the bridge developed some cracks.
