Sudarsan pays tribute to Dr Kalam on birth anniversaryPuri: Globally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik paid tribute to former president and missile man Dr APJ Abdul Kalam through a beautiful sand art on his 86th birth anniversary on Sunday.

Pattnaik created the attractive sand sculpture at Puri sea beach with Kalam’s image on a sand notebook. He wrote in the sand art, “Tribute to Dr Abdul Kalam 86th birth anniversary.”

The Padma Sri awardee sand artist also shared his memory of first meeting with the former president by posting a photo on microblogging site Twitter.

Pattnaik recalled that Dr Kalam had invited him for the first time to Rashtrapati Bhawan in 2005 when sand art was not so popular in the country and encouraged him a lot.

According to reports, Dr Kalam who is considered as ‘Student’s Icon’ had given Sudarsan a cheque of Rs 3,000 from his personal account.

Dr. Kalam was born in Rameswaram of Tamil Nadu on 15 October, 1931 and passed away on 27 July, 2015 (aged 83) in Shilong, Meghalaya.
