Sudarsan Pattnaik’s sandy greeting on #OdiaNewYear

Puri: With the State celebrating Odia New Year today with religious fervour, internationally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik created a mesmerizing work of sand art at the sea beach here to mark the occasion.

The Padma Shree awardee has expressed his greetings to all Odias with a hash tag and showcasing a green cloth on its left depicting Odia crafts. The sculpture has become a major attraction for visitors frequenting the religious town since this morning.

Patnaik has wished prosperity for all Odias on the occasion of Odia New Year, also known as the Maha Vishuba Sankranti or Pana Sankranti.

Notably, Pana Sankaranti, which marks a change of position in the Sun’s path is observed in mid-April every year. Reading of the new Odia almanac before Lord Jagannath, Devi Subhadra and Lord Balabhadra takes place at Srimandir on this day with the conduct of the special rituals.
